Hello, I’m Tim Ko and I am a UX/UI designer with a background in social work. I am also a cancer and suicide attempt survivor, which, in both experiences, learned the importance of empathy and its importance in design.

I first learned of UX/UI through my sister-in-law who is a product developer. She emphasized the importance of empathy in this field. As someone who has a background in social work, I thought, “Wow, that’s right up my alley.” From then on, I did more research and ultimately decided to give UX design a shot. In UX Academy, I quickly realized that the research needed to design a product and the empathy required to make the product successful was very similar to the process in social work. Thanks to my prior experiences, I’ve been quickly able to grasp the concepts of UX/UI design and understand how those abstract concepts translate to real life solutions.

Because of my life experiences, I am determined to create simple solutions to complex problems for real people. The current world and its information and accessibility is largely digitized, and so I desire to help people meet their goals and needs by making those digitized products, a more navigable product.
